The record home attendance for Southampton was set in 1949 when 31,044 fans watched them play against Derby County at their old ground The Dell. The team’s nickname is the Saints, which is a reference to the city’s history as a center of the Church of England. Southampton have won the FA Cup once in 1976 and have also reached the final of the competition three times. They have also won the Football League Trophy twice and were runners-up in the UEFA Cup in 1976.
